The History of Behrami Hospital
“Mahmoud Bahrami” , known as Monshi Bashi (1914-2006), a philanthropist and prominent figure of his time, purchased a piece of land measuring 8930 square meters in 1942 and proceeded to build a hospital. With his passing, the construction, which had progressed up to 85%, remained incomplete. His brother, Colonel Haj Yousef Behrami, completed the hospital and dedicated it to Tehran University through endowment deed No. 43253 of the Official Documents Office No. 98 in Tehran on September 11, 1956.
The "Mahmoud Monshi bashi Bahrami Hospital" began its official activities on May 7, 1958 under the leadership of Dr. Sadeq Mokhtarezadeh, a disciple of Dr. Mohammad Qarib, and prominent professors from Imam Khomeini Hospital. Notable professors who were influential in the early decades of Bahrami Hospital include Dr. Fakhreddin Ghavami, Professor Masoud Azizi, Professor Valiollah Mahrabi, and Dr. Jalaloddin Sharifi.
On Thursday, April 6, 1988, missiles from the Iraqi Ba'ath regime hit the kitchen and daycare of a hospital. Four staff members and two children were martyred in this attack, and the hospital was destroyed. Despite officials' decision to dissolve the hospital due to the severity of the damage, with the efforts of Dr. Fakhreddin Ghavami, the head, and Dr. Mohammad Reza Taheri, a beloved and influential manager of the hospital, a new hospital was built, equipped with a budget of over 1 billion and 250 thousand tomans, and opened in September 1997. The complete history is published in a book titled "Illustrated History of Bahrami Hospital: Iran's First Children's Hospital."
